CLF Releases 2023-2026 Strategic Plan

Comprehensive Roadmap for Embodied Carbon Action

Since its founding in 2011, the Carbon Leadership Forum (CLF) has been driving research to better understand the carbon impacts of materials used in buildings and infrastructure. Today the CLF is releasing its 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, outlining critical goals and strategies that that the organization believes will enable scaled action to reduce embodied carbon from buildings and infrastructure.

“When we started this endeavor, we expected we were onto something important, but didn’t contextualize the scale or nature of the opportunity,” said Kate Simonen, founder and executive director of the CLF. “Fast forward to today, and we’re seeing embodied carbon reductions employed as a mainstream strategy among climate leaders. From large and small architecture firms, material manufacturers, policymakers and others we are seeing the shift we’ve been preparing for over the last decade. We’re excited to see it, and are quickly scaling our research and resource development to enable action today while laying a stronger foundation for action in the future.”

“I’m excited about the recent action that is happening across the world to reduce embodied carbon,” said Anthony Hickling, managing director of CLF. “Yet there is so much more of it needed. This strategic plan was developed to help us identify the most impactful ways CLF can support widespread reductions. And it was created for you, our existing collaborators, donors, volunteers, potential project partners and others to see how we can work together over the upcoming years. This is still just the beginning!”

“Through this plan and with collective leadership from our many partners, we can make significant progress toward a decarbonized building industry. Take a look and let us know what you think.” — Kate Simonen, founder and executive director, CLF
