Mike Schaefer

Board Member

Mike Schaefer is a retired small business owner with a long history of involvement in non-profit boards and environmental protection. He brings to CLF an interest in board development, organizational excellence, and a commitment to inclusive, transparent communication. During his 9 years on the board of the Nature Conservancy of Washington State, Mike worked with the efforts of its Nominations & Governance Committee to drive the board’s outreach to underrepresented communities, including those specifically impacted by climate change. Throughout his career, he has witnessed how a broad spectrum of voices at the table improves governance and decision-making. Mike splits his time between the rainforest of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula and Seattle. Besides CLF, he sits on the board of NatureBridge – an outdoor education program providing hands-on field experience to youth – and is the elected Secretary of his local drinking water utility. He and his husband enjoy their car-trips around the US, hiking wherever they can and entertaining their rambunctious Bernese Mountain Dog.
