Associate Director of Low Carbon Design

francis yang is Associate Director of Low Carbon Design, with the role of supporting research, strategy, and coordinated action for CLF to reduce embodied carbon emissions globally. Prior to joining CLF, Frances spent 22 years at Arup. There, she leveraged her expertise in structural engineering, LCA, and healthy materials to establish and lead their Sustainable Materials Practice, driving down embodied carbon through buildings and infrastructure projects, policy development, and technical due diligence of low carbon materials. To further advance the decarbonization of the built environment, Frances has served as vice-chair of the Structural Engineers 2050 Commitment, co-founded the All for Reuse initiative, and vice-chaired the USGBC Materials and Resources Technical Advisory Group. While on the SEI Sustainability Committee, she led the authorship of ASCE technical guidance “Whole Building Life Cycle Assessment: Reference Building Structure and Strategies,” which is referenced by LEEDv4, ILFI’s Zero Carbon Certification, and other respected standards.
