A White Paper by the Structural Engineering Institute’s Sustainability Committee Carbon Working Group
Structural materials (i.e., steel and concrete) are responsible for over 10% of global carbon dioxide emissions. The white paper outlines five paths to achieve a net zero-carbon future within the built environment. These paths include varying levels of adoption of 4 transition tracks: (1) design improvements, (2) greening the electrical grid, (3) material production improvements, and (4) carbon offsets.
