Embodied Carbon Action Plan (ECAP)

The Owners Carbon Action Network (ownersCAN) is a group of developers, users, and managers of buildings that are dedicated to measuring and reducing the embodied carbon of their projects. OwnersCAN was created to raise awareness and provide education on the importance of embodied carbon in the built environment, and share strategies and lessons learned to inspire others to follow.

The first resource spearheaded and informed by ownersCAN is the Embodied Carbon Action Plan, a draft plan outlining the key steps and actions necessary to reduce embodied carbon of the buildings we design, construct and operate. The ECAP is an interactive web resource that is intended to be a constantly improving resource and Building Transparency and ownersCAN welcome input and recommendations on additional resources to include.

OwnersCAN is a sister program/initiative to materialsCAN, a group of manufacturers committed to action to reduce embodied carbon. Both initiatives are part of Building Transparency, a non-profit whose core mission is to provide the open access data and tools necessary to enable broad and swift action across the building industry in addressing embodied carbon’s role in climate change.
