This project developed and analyzed the largest known environmental impact database of building component seismic damage. \u00a0By extending established methods of probabilistic seismic performance evaluation to include environmental impacts, a more comprehensive assessment of a building\u2019s expected seismic performance can be evaluated.<\/p>\n<p>To calculate the environmental impacts, data from Carnegie Mellon University\u2019s Green Design Institute\u2019s Economic Input-Output Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) database were connected to previously established repair cost estimate data. \u00a0Environmental impacts, including embodied carbon, embodied energy, and other metrics, were calculated for the repair of nearly 800 building components under three or more different seismic damage levels.\u00a0 This database was developed to support the Federal Emergency Management Agency\u2019s (FEMA) Performance Assessment Calculation Tool (PACT) as a part of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/femap58.atcouncil.org\/\">FEMA Project P-58<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Results<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Environmental assessment work for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/femap58.atcouncil.org\/\">FEMA P-58<\/a>\u00a0can be found in:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/femap58.atcouncil.org\/documents\/fema-p-58\/26-fema-p-58-volume-4-environmental-impacts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FEMA-P-58-4: \u201cVolume 4 \u2014 Methodology for Assessing Environmental Impacts\u201d<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/femap58.atcouncil.org\/documents\/pact-3-1-2\/22-3-7-technical-background-documentation-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Background documentation, Section 3.7.20: \u201cMethodology for Environmental Impact Assessment\u201d<\/a> (zip file)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Journal publications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0378778817319710\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Simonen, Huang, Aicher, &amp; Morris.
