Climate Friendly Purchasing Toolkit

The Climate Friendly Purchasing Toolkit is a series of documents developed by members of the West Coast Climate and Materials Management Forum to aid public procurement leaders at all levels of government interested in reducing their purchasing carbon footprint.

The toolkit was inspired by the findings that an organization’s supply chain or purchased goods and services accounts for 35-55% of their entire emissions output, highlighting that purchasers have a huge opportunity to reduce the often-overlooked emissions that result from purchasing.

Components of the toolkit include:

  • A comprehensive guide on “How To Complete a Supply Chain GHG Inventory”
  • Trends analysis synthesized from more than 86 greenhouse gas emissions analyses for cities, counties, public utilities, and higher-education institutions
  • Sector-specific material management insights and strategies, including those for the Construction sector (focused on asphalt and concrete)
